Pioneer Park in St. George (with Dixie Rock)

One of the most fabulous and FREE places to visit in St. George is Pioneer Park. It is amazing – but it definitely isn’t your typical park.

There is NO grass or playgrounds.

BUT the entire 52 acre park is a natural playground full of exploring fun.

Pioneer Park in St George has easy, medium and difficult hikes for all ranges and ages.

What is Pioneer Park/Dixie Rock?

This rustic community park is a rock climber’s paradise – both expert and beginner. You can stay close to the parking lot and still climb several rocks or you can hike and venture out of find a Boy Scout Cave, historical pioneer cabin, slot canyons and a connection in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.

One the other side of this rock, the word Dixie overlooks St George. It is a fun and easy hike will steps and a bridge – even though it looks difficult from most of the angles.

Dixie Rock (which is a big red rock with DIXIE written on it and also called Sugarloaf) can be climbed and gives beautiful views of downtown, the St. George Temple, Zions National Park, White Dome and even to Arizona.

This park has a large trellis pavilion with two barbecues and fire ring, several smaller picnic areas with tables, two with metal trellis pavilions, and a separate fire pit with an amphitheater.  Bathrooms are close to the parking area too.

4 Utah Playgrounds That Make You Want to Be a Kid

Utah has a lot of kids – and a lot of playgrounds. But there are 3 Utah playgrounds that are completely above the rest. They make you want to run and play too! And they vary in location across the state.

1) Neptune Park in Saratoga Springs

The great pyramid says it all! So tall and so fun! (TWO STORIES to be exact!) Plus lots of green space and other playground equipment. When you are pretending to be a kid, don’t forget to try some of the spinning playground equipment. Check out more . . .

Made for kids and designed by kids. What better place to forget you are an adult! The tube swing is fun – if you can fit in it. 3) Moab Rotary Park in Moab Utah

Also called Freenotes Harmony Park, this place features 19 musical instruments making this park a musicians dream! It also has playgrounds, pavillions, trails and more, but the draw is the musical fun!  Check out more . . .

4) Sierra Newbold Park in West Jordan

This Utah playground has so much to explore and do! You will be entertained for hours. Don’t worry about taking over – it’s totally worth it! Be a kid and ride the boat, go down the many slides, run in circles and explore! Forget you are an adult for an hour! Check out more . . .
